Brad Brisco has an awesome post on “missional images” – this is a must read for LifeBridge folks.

Doug Jones has some great tips here.

This is a “must read” for EVERY believer. Thanks, Rustin.

Much of my adult life has been spent undoing the messages that were pounded into me as a kid: “If you are friends with an ‘unbeliever,’ you should do so only to get them SAVED.” There is a mindset prevalent in parts of the Body of Chirst which never actually says out loud — yet fully understands — that because we are Christians, we are somehow BETTER than the “unsaved”… that we have a leg up in this world and can afford to draw lines which say I should never associate with “that” type of person.

Truth is, every human being is the same. We are loved equally. As followers of Christ, we have simply been RESCUED by God’s grace alone. How does that make me better than someone? We are to be salt (a mineral that enhances the flavor of everything around it) and light (energy that penetrates all and dispels darkness).

I feel a sense of relief and also some trepidation knowing how easy it could be to love others (ex. talk with someone who is lonely). I am always wanting the big and overwhelming (overwhelming in the sense that it guides my life, rather than listening to God) ministry experience to come along and sweep me off my feet. It’s so hard to give to others the simple parts of our own lives. But I really want to obey God. No doubt for selfish reasons at first, like wanting to feel peace and have joy and be able to raise my boys so they love my husband and me, but along the good path I’m hoping my self-centered ways will start to die. Thanks for the inspiration. I’ll try to be more loving.

    Cindy,
Thanks for that reminder. Our default setting seems to keep us in the us/them dichotomy. But we can (and must) move beyond this.

    Marcola,
My friend Brad is fonding of quoting Eugene Peterson: “The way of Jesus is always local and ordinary.” We are made to be “more loving” – so it seems that out efforts in this direction, while a struggle at first, will begin to feel quite natural and “in grain” with God’s design.
